Johnny Olsen has been photographing people and landscapes since the late 1980's. He attended the world-famous School of Visual Arts in New York. He is, however, primarily self-taught in the photography field.  His experience in photographing people began after his formal training, but clearly paid off.

"When I was in school in New York, I was shooting artsy-fartsy stuff, shapes and textures. I did not shoot people during my stint at SVA. My 'people' photography started out, oddly enough, while I was working in a restaurant in San Diego. A female co-worker approached me while I was showing off some 4x5 chromes of my recent cross country trip and asked if I shot headshots. I told her that I didn't shoot people, she replied 'I'll pay you' The rest is history..."

Johnny has worked with modeling agencies in New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego, and is currently conducting his own private photography workshops and training sessions. His clients span across the globe and range from editorial and commercial agencies to television studios and private corporations. Some of Johnny's most memorable moments photographing were spent on a three-month cross-country trip, where he captured the majestic beauty of the National Parks of the western United States.

Johnny's specialty, however, is actor headshots, which he shoots using primarily natural light. Johnny is known for his relaxed, upbeat, fun shooting environment - and his ability to put his clients at ease. As Johnny says, "The most important part of a good photo shoot is the chemistry between the photographer and the model. It is my job to make him/her feel comfortable. In all of my images, there is truly a relaxed feel. This makes the difference between good pictures and great pictures."
